Budwig Center Warning: 93% of Plastic Water Bottles Contaminated

Plastic water bottles are everywhere. For many years, the Budwig Center has been warning their patients about the dangers of chemical-laden plastics. Why? Because they can wreak havoc with our hormones and general health.

What Studies Reveal About Plastic Water Bottles

A new study by Orb Media and State University of New York at Fredonia has confirmed that we should be concerned about microplastics found in bottled water.

You may have heard the news reports about this study. Researchers examined 250 water bottles acquired from 11 brands in nine different countries. A staggering 93% of these bottles were contaminated with micro-plastics.

According to the report,“Testing bottles of Aqua, Aquafina, Bisleri, Dasani, Epura, Evian, Gerolsteiner, Minalba, Nestle Pure Life, San Pellegrino and Wahaha water from India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico and the United States, researchers identified 325 particles per liter of water. However, some bottles tested featured concentrations up to 10,000 plastic pieces per liter.”

Plastics Are Dangerous For Your Health

How harmful are plastics to our health? Here is what Researchers at Exeter University reported when they studied the blood and urine of 94 teenagers aged 17-19. They found that “80 percent had the hormone-disrupting chemicals in their bodies. Four out of every five British teens have their hormones upset by gender-bending chemicals found in plastics. The chemical, called bisphenol A (BPA), is used to make plastics, including materials that come into contact with food. But it can mimic the female sex hormone, estrogen, and cause a lower sperm count in men. The chemical is also thought to be linked to several different types of cancer, including breast and prostate.”

The thinner the plastic (such as ‘cling wrap’) the more danger there is that the hormone-disrupting BPA will contaminate our cells.

BPA is found in:

  • plastic drink bottles
  • food storage containers,
  • protective coatings and linings for food

The European Chemicals Agency last year reclassified BPA as a substance of ‘very high concern’ because of its ‘probable serious effects’ on human health.

BPA that is used to harden plastics has been linked to type 2 diabetes and heart disease, as well as declining male fertility.

3 Ways to Protect Yourself

1) Stop drinking out of plastic water bottles.

Switch to glass bottles and glass containers for foods and drink. Budwig Center patients are encouraged to use waxed paper, paper bags, glass, and other non-plastic containers to store their food and beverages.

2) Purchase a quality water filter (purifier) instead of buying bottled water.

The Budwig Center does not have any commercial arrangement any water filter companies; however, we use filters like Doulton, Filopur, and Berkley’s.

All the apartments we provided for our patients have one of these water filters.

Why do we favor these water filters? These systems are not only very effective but are also affordable. Moreover, pure water is the best choice over reverse osmosis and distilled water, etc.

3) Consume generous amounts of flaxseeds.

Flaxseeds naturally balance hormones and offer protection from the gender-bending plastics. A study reported: “The women who eat the most flax lowered their risk of getting breast cancer by 62% compared to women who do not eat it. Women with this genetic marker who eat large amounts of flax lignans reduce their risk of breast cancer by up to 70%.”

What is the secret of the famous flaxseed oil and cottage cheese mixture? Dr. Budwig discovered that this combination contains two anticancer components: lignans and an omega-3 fat called “alpha-linolenic acid (ALA).”

It’s important to understand that it’s not hormones that cause cancer and chronic disease. True, hormones are involved. However, the root cause is due to  exposure to toxic chemicals found not only in plastics but in the food, air, and water around us. This toxic environment we live in disrupts the hormones, thus resulting in the many chronic illnesses we see today.
