It is an adjustment to have to change your daily routine drastically, as many of us have done. In many countries, the restrictions are slowly being lifted, and as we adjust to this new sense of freedom, we may have noticed that we’ve got ourselves into some bad habits. Fortunately, there are a variety of things that you can do to get back on track.
Get Active And Boost Your Immune System
Problem: You’ve been confined in the house for weeks, and you’ve become a couch potato.
Solution: Try to stay as active as possible.
Being physically active is a crucial step to boost your immune system. Something as simple as regular exercise has many benefits, for example:
- It improves both the immune system and the metabolic system.
- Our bodies start to produce more antibodies and T-cells.
- It can help the body to get rid of toxins, which allows your immune system to become even more robust.
Additionally, sweating is good for your immune health. When we sweat and raise our body temperature, our body reacts to it as if we had a fever and begins to kill pathogens.
We know what you’re thinking, and the answer is: No. You do not have to sign up at the nearest gym or start an intense exercise regime. Start by going for a 10-minute run, do some light jogging, or take a brisk walk. For those who can, we recommend that you do this at least three times a week.
If you are not yet permitted to leave the house for exercise or are a little hesitant to go out, then find workout videos that you can do from the comfort of your home. Start lifting light weights. Even if you don’t have weights, there are alternatives you can use to help you stay in shape.
Quarantine Care – Eat Healthily
Problem: The quarantine has made you slip into some bad habits, and you’ve resorted to eating “comfort foods” more often than not.

Eating the right types of food is the primary step towards a healthy body and immune system. Why? Our gut is very connected to our immune system, so the healthier foods that we eat, the stronger our immune system. When in quarantine (and when watching the whole world fight a pandemic such as COVID-19), it is easy to feel anxious. The economic impact of the situation, for example, is of great concern to us all. Therefore, it is imperative that you take good care of your mental and emotional health.
You can begin by getting sufficient sleep, as sleep can reboot not only your body but also your mind. When we don’t sleep enough, our bodies start to produce more of the stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. Some studies show that those who get at least 7 hours of sleep are less at risk of suffering from a cold.
