“By healing the parts of ourselves that are frozen in the past, we are able to bring them back into the present – and each time we do this we become less fragmented, and more whole.”
― Jessica Moore – Author
This article is part of a series of articles listing some things you can do to help prevent cancer.
At the Budwig Center, we have found this statement to be true. Our multifaceted cancer programs focus on the many reasons for the health issue, including identifying the emotional state of each patient. We then provide treatments and teach techniques that can help them address those issues.
As we strive to prevent cancer, we cannot ignore the importance of finding and maintaining emotional balance. Here are a few helpful suggestions that can help you achieve that goal.
Enjoy Life, Now!
We all want to be as happy as we can be, as often as possible. There is a natural tendency to think in terms of “when I finish my education and get my career on the right path…. then I will be happy” or “when I have a certain amount of money saved up, and my money worries are over… then I will be happy” and so on. We’re forever looking for the proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The problem is, we keep putting off enjoying life to the full today and keep pushing it forward to someday in the future.
Why wait? Why not try and achieve a reasonable level of happiness every day, starting with today? True inner happiness often has little to do with money or career success.A large happiness contributor is whether we are a “giver” or a “taker”. A giver works at being generous and grateful. Being grateful for what we already have, seeing the positive things in life and being generous with them creates deep inner happiness that “takers” can’t fully experience.
Several activities can help you get, and grow, your happiness.
Choose from the following list the ones that you find meaningful and enjoyable:
- Start your day with a cup of natural organic raw hot chocolate or organic coffee (organic is pesticide free and offers many more health benefits).
- Music is life. Collect songs you like and make a “playlist.”
- Singing and laughing both enhance the immune system and give that overall good-feeling effect. Why not sing for a few minutes each day? Try out Karaoke.
- Spend time at least once a week with friends. Talking, laughing and doing things together with likeminded people is often much more rewarding than staying at home and watching TV.
- Walk in beautiful parks or by the sea. Walking also gives that feel-good effect and provides many health benefits; good health adds to happiness.
- Read books that you enjoy. A good classic is “How to Stop Worrying and Start Living” by Dale Carnegie.
- Tired and run down? Take a day off and restore your “batteries.”
- Never stop dating your soul mate. When was the last time you had a “date night” and fell in love again?
- Collect and regularly read wise quotes that inspire and motivate you.
- Take up a hobby (i.e., painting, bird watching, dancing, sports).
- Watch movies, but mainly funny ones.
- Spend time with kids. Stay young by having young people in your life.
- Find a good massage therapist. The feel-good factor and health benefits of a quality massage are innumerable.
- Take out the family albums and reminisce with family and friends.
This is just a partial list to inspire you not to put off enjoying life today. Find out what things you like and incorporate them in your daily schedule.
Resolve Negative Emotional Issues
According to a 2012 study, “The American Medical Association (AMA) states 80 percent of all health problems are stress related, and even the conservative Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has stated that 85 percent of all diseases appear to have an emotional element.”
In short, we at the Budwig Center encourage you to take care of yourself and your health before you encounter a problem. Enjoy being the healthiest version of you!
