The technique of reflexology consists of stimulating and manipulating points and areas of both feet using one’s hands and fingers to promote relaxation and activate the body’s self-healing mechanisms. Origins of reflexology can be found in an Egyptian doctor’s tomb (Saqqara) and more recent historical examples are found from the mid-1800s onwards using this treatment mainly for pain relief.
Reflexology is based on the belief that our feet reflect a map of our organs. The massage acts on the circulatory and lymphatic system, as well as the distal meridians of the organs, massaged to recuperate a balance in these. It is a gentle, non-invasive therapy performed on the solaes of the feet while the person is lying down comfortably.
